GREETINGS FROM AUDRA ART

Welcome to audra-art.com. As you've probably guessed, my name is Audra, and this is where I display my art. Friends half-jokingly refer to me as a 'Jane of All Trades' but this is not entirely true, because, whilst I can do almost anything artistic, I cannot, say, groom your dog or repair your car.

Things that I can do include copy-writing, copy-editing, creative writing, drawing with pencils, chalk, charcoal, ink, and oil pastels, as well as painting with oils, acrylics, and watercolours. I can also design and build websites, make digital music, and do graphic design, both hand-drawn and computer-aided. In fact, I've been a freelance graphic designer and web designer for about 5 years now (after 5 years of working for other people and 2 years of running my own business). Oh, and I seem to have a flair for interior design, collages, and 3D shadowbox art. Alas, the spare hard-drive on my old computer, where I kept all of my photos, decided to reformat itself without my permission, and many things were lost. I am in the process of slowly rebuilding my online portfolio, which is rather sparse at the moment, so please be patient.

In the meantime, there are numerous galleries on the Audra Art website, including samples of my paintings, writings, music, digital art, graphic designs, and web designs. The Audra Art website is, of course, one of my designs. The purpose of the site is primarily for your own enjoyment, but should you find yourself in need of my services, I am more than happy to oblige. Just contact me, and we'll work something out.

THE AUDRA ART PHILOSOPHY

We've all heard the expression Do one thing and do it well.

Well... This approach may work for some, but it has never worked for me. I don't believe in limiting myself to only one thing, especially when it comes to my art. I have dabbled in everything from hand-drawn cartooning to digital music production. Some of these pursuits never pass beyond the dabbling phase, but others consume me, becoming an integral part of my life from the moment I discover that I can do them.

Art comes in many forms. It can be a painting, a dance routine, or a well-prepared meal. Art means different things to different people. To me it is the ultimate expression of one's inner life, which pours forth to bring a different perspective to anyone who sees, hears, smells, touches, or tastes it. People tend to approach art in the way that they approach life. Some embrace it while others flee from it, and yet others simply feel apathetic and do nothing. I admit to having done all of these things at different times in my life. But this is not about me, or about my life. It is about my art.

SITE ORIENTATION

After toying around with various design options, I've decided that less really is more, and that's why every page of audra-art.com will look more-or-less like this one, as far as colours and layout are concerned. I liked the theme and design of Audra Art Version 2 (link opens in new window), but the complex layout did not lend itself well to editing and updating. I had to create all sorts of workarounds in order to display the contents properly within some very limited parameters, and it got to be a bit of a hassle in the end. I've decided to place function above form, and this is the result, albeit a slightly less interesting one.

This site is optimised for a 1024 x 768 screen resolution, but will look equally good at higher resolutions. Viewing audra-art.com at a lower resolution than 1024 x 768 will result in horizontal scrolling. Most pages on this site will open in the same window, and will usually include a 'back' button or link. Either way, there will almost always be some type of menu or directive link on the page, for ease of navigation. Some links will open in new windows, and will be noted as such on the page in which they appear. Thus, if you use a popup-blocking software, you will need to allow pop-ups for audra-art.com. This can easily be done by clicking the popup-blocker icon in your browser and choosing 'Allow Pop-Ups for this Site' (or a similar option). In some cases, you may need to right-click the icon in your browser (or CMD-click if you are a Mac user), rather than left-clicking. Alternatively, some softwares will prompt you, upon clicking a link that opens in a new window, to decide whether you wish to allow pop-ups, or not. If this is the type of software that you use, simply choose 'Yes' (or similar) when prompted.

Once a pop-up window has been activated, it will either contain a button or a text-link to close the window, or it will contain 'back/next' type navigation. In some cases, there will be different versions of a gallery or page for both JavaScript and non-JavaScript users. The JS versions will look better and have nicer effects, but may not work in all browsers. The non-JS versions will not be as nifty, but will always function, no matter which browser you use. Thus, it is up to you which version you choose to look at. Generally, the JavaScript effects will function properly in either Internet Explorer or Opera, but not always in Firefox or Netscape Navigator. You may have to just test them out before you know for certain whether they'll work in your browser, or not. This site, as a whole, is designed to function and look good in any browser, though it will look best in Internet Explorer, simply because IE displays custom scrollbars, while most other browsers do not.
